Places to Visit in Sheffield

Sheffield is definitely one magnificent city. Riddled with art galleries, museums, theatres and many other places of historic significance, it is a treasure trove for tourists. There are lots of places to visit while you are in Sheffield, and we've listed a few of our favourite places below.

Sheffield Cathedral

This magnificent structure is the oldest building in Sheffield. It has been recognised as a Cathedral since 1914 but it has Christian history from as far back as 1000 years ago. The east well especially holds a lot of information about the history of the city. It was built with stones from the Norman church and has the famous distinctive dog-tooth pattern.

Explore the Tudor monuments and find out the history of the Earls of Shrewsbury. Whether you are a lover of history or you want to worship in this religious place; there is something for everyone.

Sheffield Winter Garden

Attached to the Millennium Gallery is one of the largest temperate glasshouses built in the UK. It has a vast collection of over 2,500 plants from all around the world. The plants are given personalised care. For example, watering is done by hoses or watering cans to ensure each plant gets the accurate amount of moisture.

All this to ensure you enjoy a peaceful stroll as you observe the beautiful collection of plants.

Peak District National Park

If you are looking for a serene environment where you can relax and have a good time with friends and family, then this is the place for you.

Peak District is in the highland region of England where you get a spectacular view of the surrounding valleys and continuous green pasture.

There are many fun activities that tourists can engage in. You could just walk along the designated paths and enjoy nature at its finest. However, if you want adventure, there is rock climbing, biking and even caving.

Chatsworth House

This is yet another magnificent building in England. The former house of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. It has been passed down the generations since 1549. It is famous for its wonderful collection of art, furniture and also for its fine craftsmanship.

It is surrounded by a garden, a park where kids can play and a restaurant; all ready to make your holiday even more special.

Sheffield & Tinsley Canal

The Sheffield & Tinsley Canal is a 4-mile stretch of flowing water that branches from river Don to join Victoria Quays. It cuts through the city centre and makes its way to Tinsley. People find it refreshing to walk beside the canal enjoying the peaceful water and pleasant smell of nature.

You can also decide to go on a short cruise along the canal. They are usually arranged by various companies on small boats that are able to navigate the canal but luxurious enough to make you comfortable.
